The Dreams I Still Have for Us, 2003

Mixed media, dimensions variable

Imperative for the smooth cohabitation of two elements, is the understanding of each other’s code of conduct. This involves a period of adjustment filled with flirtation, suspicion, fantasy and obstinacy.

The Dreams I Still Have for Us (2003) is a collaborative work between myself and my father. We dive into an unknown space in an effort to communicate, discuss, negotiate and introduce ourselves anew while developing and installing a space of improvised fences. This process of making the work from each person’s individual approach is the actual piece. The version of 2003 was created on-site, using materials found in the buffer zone of old Nicosia.

In 2007 and 2011, two versions of the artwork were presented at the Soap Factory and the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art (MOMus), respectively. They were the results of a collaboration with technicians from the two institutions, Marc from the Soap Factory, and Aleksandr and Georg from MOMus, following the same process. These two versions were also created on-site, mainly using abandoned materials found in the storage rooms of the two institutions.
